The Mario games often take a slower, more methodical and considered approach, while Sonic has always (as he’ll tell you himself) gotta go fast. If you’re looking for the thrill of barrelling around those loops as Sonic, you won’t find quite the same experience in one of Mario’s titles.

Sonic is better. First of all everyone who thinks mario is better than sonic, you guys are idiots. Mario needs to lose weight. Sonic games have more action and in Mario games its pretty much the same story all the time. If Sonic and Mario were fighting, Sonic would win hands down. Mario is fat and all he does is just stomp on his foes.

Sonic, mostly because I grew up more on his games than Mario’s, but also because… well, Sonic is edgier. We joke about Ow the Edge, but Sonic was meant to be the rebellious attitude-infused alternative to Mario from the very start. Edginess is in a sense part of the franchise’s DNA; it just evolved with the times.

While I definitely gravitate more towards Sonic than Mario, both have good soundtracks (usually). Mario’s music started off pretty lackluster IMO but slowly got better over the years, primarily in the 3D games. Sonic started out strong, sort of dropped for a while at the early 2000s, then rose back up with Unleashed and to a lesser extent 06.

Sonic is enjoyable for all ages due to this whereas Mario (fun though the games may be) can often feel very “kiddy” for lack of a better term, too family friendly and vanilla. Sonic brings more depth, humour and insight to each game plot, it’s far more versatile. Also sonic music over mario music anyday!
